Freelance Writer Invoice Template
Give editors and clients the detail they need to approve payment without turning your invoice into a time sheet. Use a separate line for every article, page, or copy package, then name the agreed billing basis.
Useful line items for writers
- Article or blog post: include the working title, word-count range, and delivery date.
- Website copy: bill by page or package, such as Home, About, and Services pages.
- Editing: state the document name and whether the rate is hourly, per word, or fixed.
- Monthly retainer: name the month and included deliverables.
- Kill fee or extra revision: reference the contract clause or approved change request.
Terms that prevent payment delays
Include the purchase order or assignment ID, your preferred payment method, and a firm due date. Net 14 works well for direct clients. Publishers may require Net 30 or Net 45, so match the signed assignment.
